About the Coin

Danish Fare Token Coin

From 1966 to 1974 Copenhagen Tramways, Københavns Sporveje – KS, used a discount token, RABATPOLET, for trams and buses in Copenhagen.

RABATPOLET shows “KS” on one side and the Little Mermaid statue in “Langelinie” – Copenhagens harbor – on the other. Behind the Little Mermaid is the kingship “Dannebrog” to the left and the building in the background is the old tower crane for placing the masts on sail ships. It dates back to 1749.

The token exists in both a copper-nickel version and a brass version and each has two layout versions where one has a more straight mermaid sitting on a smaller stone than the other version. On the other side the script of KS is thinner and bigger.
